Scholarship Requirements

1. Any applicant wishing to be considered as an eligible candidate for the CBPOA Scholarship fund must complete an application and submit it to a board member to be presented at the next board meeting.  The application will then be considered b the scholarship committee.  The committee will then make it’s recommendation at the next general meeting.

2. The applicant must be from the coastal bend area.

3. The applicant must appear in person, if required to do so, to be interviewed by at least four members of the CBPOA board of directors.

4. The applicant must be a high school graduate, not a GED recipient.

5. The applicant must be a full-time student and must major in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement or closely related courses.  Closely related courses must be justified to the board prior to release of scholarship funds.

6. An applicant must submit an up-to-date high school transcript with GPA, ACT, SAT and/or any other testing scores given by the school to validate graduation qualifications, or college transcripts, if applicable.

7. Applications must be completed fully in ink or typed.  All blanks in the application form must be completed.  Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

8. The applicant will be responsible for submitting the completed application and insure that it is received on a timely basis prior to the school semester in which the applicant is enrolling in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement or closely related courses.

9. The full amount of the scholarship will not be awarded all at one time.  Instead, it will be divided into two parts of $300 per semester.  The second portion of the fund being contingent on the successful completion of the previous semester.

10. Other scholarships, grants, or loans received will not exclude the applicant from being eligible for CBPOA Scholarship fund.

11. A person attending vocational or trade school is not eligible for a CBPOA Scholarship.

12. The recipient will be selected regardless of ethnic origin, sex or religious beliefs.

13. Application for the CBPOA Scholarship is open to any persons who meet the above requirements and whose parent(s) or guardian(s) is an active participant in law enforcement or related field and is a paid up member of the CBPOA for at least the previous year.

14. The recipient is eligible for only one scholarship.

15. Whenever special cause is shown, the board may waive the requirements to allow an applicant to compete for funding.
