Hosted by the Coastal Bend Council of Governments, we have partnered with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (Teex.org) to bring two in-person cybersecurity training courses to the Coastal Bend.  These courses are free of charge.  This one-time only opportunity will be taking place on August 11th and 12th, 2026 at the CBCOG John Buckner Conference Room (2910 Leopard St, Corpus Christi, TX, 78408.) Seating is limited and students are asked to complete the registration process electronically via the TEEX website prior to attending the course.

There are two separate classes requiring TWO separate registrations.  Below are the details for each course along with the links to register:

Developing Cybersecurity Resiliency for Everyone – AWR136 – 8 hours – 8/11/2026, 8am – 5pm.

Registration Link:

https://my.teex.org/TeexPortal/Default.aspx?MO=mCourseCatalog&D=EC&C=AWR136&S=812

Description:

AWR136 is an eight-hour, non-technical introduction to cybersecurity designed to empower individuals and organizations with the awareness and practical skills needed to combat today’s cyber threats. Whether at work or at home, participants will learn how everyday actions can strengthen cybersecurity and prevent disruptions to business, government, and emergency response operations.

This course goes beyond theory—delivering hands-on techniques that provide immediate personal value and foster a lasting culture of cyber hygiene and resilience across your organization.

What You’ll Learn:

The seven layers of cybersecurity—and how to secure the most vulnerable layer: people

How to identify and protect Internet of Things (IoT) devices in homes and workplaces

How to shrink your digital footprint using Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) tools

Today’s evolving threat landscape, including six ransomware attack vectors and emerging tactics like SEO poisoning, drive-by downloads, malvertising, and impersonation

How cyber attackers are leveraging AI—and how to defend against it

A practical Cyber Hygiene toolkit with hands-on exercises covering:

Building a “human firewall”

Safe browsing, password management, multi-factor authentication and passkeys

Using online tools to find out if your accounts have been exposed in a data breach.

Securing social media, mobile devices, home routers, and IoT devices

Removing personal data from the public Internet

Build resilience. Stay ahead. Protect your world.

Understanding Targeted Cyber Attacks – AWR376 – 8 hours – 8/12/2026, 8am – 5pm.

Registration Link: https://my.teex.org/TeexPortal/Default.aspx?mo=mCourseCatalog&d=ec&c=AWR376&s=256

Description:

This course provides participants with specific information regarding targeted cyber attacks, including advanced persistent threats. This information will place them in a better position to plan and prepare for, respond to, and recover from targeted cyber attacks. This course will fill the gap in threat-specific training for cybersecurity as a community-driven course that focuses on the phases of targeted cyber attacks and the attacker methods used during each phase. Participants will also receive valuable information on cyber attack prevention, mitigation and response.

Topics:

What is a Targeted Cyber Attack/Advanced Persistent Threat

Phases of a Targeted Cyber Attack

Developing the Attack Surface

Types of Reconnaissance

Inside the Target’s System

Managing Targeted Cyber Attacks

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out. We are looking forward to seeing you here!
